Plant a Seed, Read! Summer Programs 2026

Our 2026 teen summer reading challenge starts Thursday, June 18, and runs for 7 weeks with weekly prize drawings.

Summer Reading Challenge on Beanstack
Thursday, June 18 through Sunday, August 9
Enter the challenge any time before August 9. Earn badges by reading books, attending programs, and/or writing book reviews.
Badges are your entries into the weekly prize drawings. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have of winning a prize.

   June Programs  

Collage Workshop
Thursday, June 18, 6:00 to 7:30 PM
Create your own unique collage from discarded magazines, paper scraps, and book pages. Make a mood or inspiration board to help focus your goals, or simply create a fun piece of art to take home. For adults & teens ages 13+. Registration required. 

Wednesday, June 24, 1:30 to 5:00 PM
It’s not summer without a Henna Tattoo! Come chill to some beats, meet friends, and leave with a wicked good henna tattoo. Open to all ages. No registration required.

Youth Book Sale for Children & Teens
Wednesday, June 24, Noon to 5:00 PM

Stock up for the summer at this one-day-only book sale. Organized by the Friends of the Library. 

Graffiti Art Contest Workshop & Show
Saturday, June 27, 1:30 to 3:00 PM

Try your hand at graffiti! We'll supply the paint and a 30x40 inch canvas. All artwork will be displayed in the teen area for the 7 weeks of our summer reading program. Artwork may be voted on by visitors to the exhibit. Prizes will be awarded for Best Design, Best Use of Color, and Originality. For teens entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2026. Registration required. Raindate: Mon. June 29, 2:00pm to 3:30pm.

Kokedama Workshop
Wednesday, July 1, 4:00 to 5:00 PM

Learn about this Japanese planting style and create your own miniature Kokedama. Led by staff from the New England Tower Hill Botanical Garden. For teens entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2026. Registration required.

Dungeons & Dragons Painting Workshop
Tuesday, July 14, 4:30 to 5:30 PM

Paint a D&D inspired scene set within the shape of a D20 dice. Led by Lara from Pop Up Art School. For teens entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2026. Registration required. 

Felted Flower Patches Workshop
Saturday, July 18, 2:00 to 3:30 PM

Needle felt flower patches using wool and simple felting techniques. Use the finished piece as a patch on a jacket, or frame it for a unique piece of art. Led by Lara from Pop Up Art School. For teens entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2026. Registration required.

Mushroom Nightlight Workshop
Thursday, July 23, 3:15 to 4:30 PM

Create a nightlight in your own individual color scheme. Led by Mandy from Wicked Good Henna. For teens entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2026. Registration required.

Play Mini-Golf in the Library!
Saturday, July 25, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Play 10 holes of mini-golf on the first floor of the library. For all ages. No registration required.

Animal World Experience
Wednesday, August 5, 5:30 to 7:45 PM

Matt Gabriel is back with more amazing animals for you to meet! Matt has introduced audiences to hedgehogs, frogs, snakes, a kinkajou named Boo, and even a small alligator. We can't wait to see what he brings this time. Presentation will be followed by petting opportunity. Open to all ages. No registration required.

Botanical Block Printing Workshop
Thursday, August 6, 3:00 to 4:30 PM

Learn how to carve a design into a block and create ink prints. Led by artist, Tif Farmakis-Day. For teens entering grades 6-12 in Fall 2026. Registration required.
